just saw mighty aphrodite on cable. a great woody allen film, right up there with bullets over broadway, at least for me. tried finding a dvd of this when i was in japan some years back. wasn't successful.

have heard quite a number of versions of the ending song (or should i say 'ending greek chorus') that i don't really know who sang the original. no matter, whatever version you listen to, it has that infectious melody that you've no choice but to sing along.

while i learned that that wasn't necessarily true (owing to my seemingly natural predisposition to get lost), i'd have to agree that it's a very helpful tool for getting around.

a phone call early this evening sent me into an emotional roller-coaster. well, not really i suppose, because feelings of disgust, hate and disappointment lingered longer than they should've.

should it be surprising that the call came from someone from the-company-that-cannot-be-named? hardly. basically, the powers-that-be had asked me to change some items in my weblog, things they don't see fit for public knowledge, stuff that in their minds should be 'un-google-able' .

honestly, i've never known a company that's so, so pre-occupied with its own image. on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, they'd probably get 15. these so-called managers just keep on topping themselves each time. their policies and ideas lately have been turning from mildly amusing to downright ludicrous.

and now, they're into monitoring blogs. say what?

anyway, i learned some years back that it's not wise to make decisions when tempers flare and emotions run high. so inasmuch that i'm so tempted to write a lot more stuff about this, i'm gonna have to try and wait till the emotions subside.

it saddens me somehow to have to do this. this space being my blog and all.

at around this time bout four years ago, some ex-officemates and i went to this park in japan, shinjuku go-en, to spend a relaxing sunday after a gruelling week, which was the norm then (and still is, i hear).

the park, situated at the heart of shinjuku, one of the busiest cities in japan, offers some nice, quiet spots perfect for spending moments with friends, musing about the existential questions in life, having arcane glimpses of the universe, or like this japanese artist, dabbling in stuff one has a passion for.

yesterday was the last working day of the year. for some of the groups in the company-that-cannot-be-named, it had started in the early part of the week. oh, you could tell.

anyway, a few days time to get our minds off work should be most welcome. finally...

in the final company meeting for the year yesterday, the powers-that-be decided to hand out ham (with cheese, as the president proudly declared, ang galante di ba, cheese, kraft pa, making us think of how poor we probably were that we needed our president to buy us cheese) to all those poor, unfortunate souls working in the office.

there must be something special in those hams. no one was allowed to take a vacation leave that day; even pre-approved leaves were revoked.

it must be the cheese.

slipped a 20-peso bill into our vending machine yesterday. to my dismay, there was no sprite, no coke, no sprite ice, no royal, none of those other variations except for one - diet coke. diet coke? seriously, diet coke?

hmm, wonder if the gods were telling me something.

had our project dinner last wednesday night at chili's. twas supposed to be at red crab, but the fates wouldn't allow it. some other time, i guess.
